It has been such a long time since I've reviewed a sheet mask, and that's because I've just been so busy that I haven't had the time to sit down and relax with one. :( Well, I'm happy to finally be able to review one for you guys today, and it's definitely a luxurious one that I've been super excited about -- The Nature Republic Ginseng Royal Silk Gold Hydrogel Mask

NATURE REPUBLIC GINSENG ROYAL SILK GOLD HYDROGEL MASK
The Ginseng Royal Silk Gold Hydrogel Mask is an all in one mask sheet complete with total wrinkle removal effects and whitening effects. Contains the highest quality ingredient extracts offered by Red Ginseng, Royal Jelly, Silk Amino Acid and Gold. This specialized wrinkle removal and whitening mask targets sun spots, dark spots, blemishes, pigmentation, aging spots, scars, dark circles, and crows feet.
HOW TO USE: After cleansing and applying toner, remove the film from the sheet mask. Apply to the face using the side where the film was removed (apply the smooth side to skin). Adhere the bottom half of the mask (with the mouth) first and then the upper half for easier application and a better fit. Leave the mask on for about 20-40 minutes then remove. Gently tap or pat the remaining essence on the skin for better absorption.
The Ginseng Royal Silk Gold Hydrogel Mask is hands-down one of the most luxurious masks I have ever tried. The mask and essence is made out of pure 99% gold, fermented 6-year-old red ginseng, royal jelly collected from Jiri Mountain, and Amino Acids extracted from golden silkworms.
NOTABLE INGREDIENTS:
Royal Ginseng is used as an antioxidant for restoring and revitalizing tried skin.
Golden Cocoon Silk extracted from silk worms provide skin tightening effects, along with nourishment and regeneration to cracked, wrinkled skin.
Mount Jiri Royal Jelly extracted from a honey mix compound delivers extensive brightening effects to dull complexions making the skin lighter.
Gold is used for skin brightening, detoxing, and purifying. Plus it accelerates absorption into the skin and ionizes skin regeneration cells.
The Ginseng Royal Silk Gold Hydrogel Mask is a bright golden yellow color with tiny shimmers that looks just like gold! Since I don't know Korean, it's hard to tell if the mask is made out of gold, or it just contains gold ingredients (in the essence), but either way, this mask is sure to make you feel fancy! It comes in two separate pieces consisting of an upper half which contains cutouts for the eyes and nose, and a bottom half which has a cutout for the mouth. Since the mask comes in two separate pieces, it allows for easier application, and a more customized fit!
The overall mask was a pretty decent fit, but the cutouts were disproportionate to my small face! Usually I wouldn't care that much about mask cutouts not being perfect, but this one was abnormally large which resulted in a lot of skin around my mouth and eyes not getting benefits from the mask. I especially wanted it brighten up my dark circles, but the eye cutouts were too big leaving my under-eye area uncovered. I do have a small nose, so there was also about a half inch of mask material hanging from my nose!
The hydrogel mask was well soaked and wasn't too dry or too drippy/messy. It had a good balance of essence on it that made it last the full 40 minutes on my skin. What I also liked about this hydrogel mask, unlike most hydrogels, is that it adhered to the skin really well and stayed on! It didn't slip or slide down my face and I did not have to readjust it whatsoever.
The Ginseng Royal Silk Gold Hydrogel Mask was soaked in a clear essence that had a faint generic essence scent that I personally enjoyed because it's not too strong and smelled fresh. The mask felt very cooling and soothing on my skin. Plus, the essence itself wasn't too thick, and also not runny or watery. It was lightweight and absorbed into my skin fairly quickly!
The hydrogel mask was hydrating, but not as moisturizing as I would have liked. It provided my skin with moisture that did go beneath the surface, however, that moisture didn't last long and it certainly doesn't last through to the next day! I tend to use sheetmasks at night, so it's important for me to find one that has long-lasting effects, or at least ones that last more than a night. On the bright side though, I did notice that my complexion was a lot brighter and luminous, though these effects were also short-lived. My skin tone and texture was also more even after use and the redness from my blemishes were a lot less noticeable!
FINAL THOUGHTS?
All in all, the Ginseng Royal Silk Gold Hydrogel Mask from Nature Republic is definitely a luxurious mask with top-notch ingredients. It's decent mask that provides the skin with a nice brightening effect. The hydrogel evens out the skin tone and texture and is moisturizing, but the moisture is very short-lived. I enjoyed using this mask, and it's definitely fun and entertaining (It's GOLD!), but I personally feel like there are cheaper masks that have the same effects (brightening, evening out skin tone & texture, moisturizing) if not better. This mask is perfect for a pampering spa night, or when you need to treat yourself, but I wouldn't use this one everyday!

To answer your question, it says the mask is made of 'Gold Hydrogel', so they probably put some gold into the sheet when manufacturing it, too! That's pretty luxurious!
ReplyDeleteI never got the chance to try these, they're so fancy! But you're probably right, if the effects aren't that 'high-end', these won't be good for daily use... at that price, and if we're going to use one every single day, they'd better be magical!
