One of my least favorite things to do is to clean my makeup brushes, sponges, and tools, but it's undeniable how necessary it is to clean your makeup tools often. I usually have to reserve an hour or two just for cleansing my brushes because I use a lot of tools each week. It's recommended to clean your brushes after each use not just for hygienic reasons, but also because the brushes won't perform as well if they're not clean! I currently use a regular bar of soap to cleanse my brushes, but I recently switched over to the Kicho Argan Brush Cleanser and Cleanser Wipes, which I'll be reviewing today! Kicho is a very ingredient-conscientious brand that strives to avoid harsh chemicals by using natural ingredients.
These two products have seriously changed how I cleanse my brushes, so it's no longer a multi-hour long chore! So without further ado, lets get to the review! :D

KICHO ARGAN BRUSH CLEANSER
"Extend the life of your brushes with the Argan Brush Cleanser from Kicho. Free of paraben, benzophenone and artificial colors, this luxurious brush cleanser cleans, disinfects, and conditions brush fibers." (Taken from Ohlolly.com)The Argan Brush Cleanser (260ml | 9.1 fl.oz) is a liquid brush cleanser developed to remove and condition both makeup brushes and puffs, without the use of harsh chemicals. It contains a blend of plant extracts such as Green Tea, Calendula, Lemon, and Iris that help provide a deep clean as well as antimicrobial effects. Argan Oil is also added to help condition and keep your brushes soft long after cleansing.
INGREDIENTS: Water, PEG-7 Glyceryl Cocoate, SD Alcohol 40-B, TEA-Lauryl Sulfate, Calendula Officinalis Flower Extract, Citrus Grandis (Grapefruit) Peel Extract, Brassica Oleracea Italica (Broccoli) Extract, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Citrus Limon (Lemon) Fruit Extract, Sophora Angustifolia Root Extract, Acorus Calamus Root Extract, Polysorbate 20, Argania Spinosa Kernel Oil, Phenoxyethanol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Fragrance
The Argan Brush Cleanser comes in a clear plastic bottle with a white twist-off cap. The packaging is very simplistic which plays nicely with their naturalistic approach. Removing the cap reveals a tiny hole in the center of the neck of the bottle that's meant to dispense the product. The bottle requires you to shake it (upside-down) in order to dispense the product which comes out in droplets. It's fairly easy to use and I actually prefer this kind of packaging because it's easy to control how much you want to dispense. The brush cleanser itself is a clear liquid that has a very light generic clean scent that's very pleasant!
HOW TO USE: Dispense an appropriate amount of the Argan Brush Cleanser into a container. Dip the dirty makeup brushes, puffs, or sponges, into the cleanser and gently massage the cleanser into the brush or sponge. Rinse off thoroughly.
Basically, just dip, massage (or swirl), and rinse! It's super easy to use and incredibly effective in removing all types of makeup including powder foundations, eyeshadows, and even gel liner! The one major downside that I want to point out is that the really dense brushes and thick sponges (like the Beauty Blender) require quite a bit of product to get them thoroughly cleaned. Besides that though, the Argan Brush Cleanser tackles makeup right off of the brushes/sponges and leaves them spotless! It removes all makeup reside left behind on the brushes and left them feeling soft with no greasy/oily residue.
Here are the dirty makeup tools I put to the test including brushes, sponges, and puffs:
1. Gel Liner - As you can see in the photos below, the Argan Brush Cleanser completely removed the gel liner from the brush. The grayish tint to my originally white brush is due to previous struggles trying to clean it, but no cleanser I use can transform it back to white. This is the closest I've gotten!
2. Powder Makeup (Foundation, Blush, Eyeshadow) - Powder makeup doesn't stand a chance against the brush cleanser. It removes the powdered eyeshadow, blush, and foundation like a piece of cake leaving the brushes in pristine condition. However, denser brushes require more product to get it thoroughly cleaned since makeup is seated deep within the bristles.
3. Sponges - I was shocked to see how well it cleaned my sponges (Beauty Blenders)! It broke up the makeup and it rinsed off so easily leaving the sponges spotless.
KICHO ARGAN BRUSH CLEANSER WIPES
"Keep your brushes clean and fresh with the Argan Brush Cleanser Wipes. Free of paraben, benzophenone, and artificial colors, these luxurious and convenient wipes clean oil residue and dirt, disinfect, and condition brush fibers. Perfect for fast and easy daily cleaning of brushes or puffs." (Taken from Ohlolly.com)The Argan Brush Cleanser Wipe (15ml | 0.5 fl.oz) is similar to the Brush Cleanser, but in wipe form! They contain the same special blend of plant extracts like Argan, Green Tea, Lemon, and Iris, to name a few, that help clean and condition the brushes. The Argan Brush Cleanser Wipes come in a box of 5 and are convenient for quick and easy cleaning, or for traveling!
INGREDIENTS: Water, PEG-7 Glyceryl Cocoate, SD Alcohol 40-B, TEA-Lauryl Sulfate, Calendula Officinalis Flower Extract, Citrus Grandis (Grapefruit) Peel Extract, Brassica Oleracea Italica (Broccoli) Extract, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Citrus Limon (Lemon) Fruit Extract, Sophora Angustifolia Root Extract, Acorus Calamus Root Extract, Polysorbate 20, Argania Spinosa Kernel Oil, Phenoxyethanol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Fragrance
The Argan Brush Cleanser Wipes come packaged in a box of 5 with each containing 15ml/0.5 fl.oz of product. Each packet contains a folded wipe with one side containing a bumpy texture which is the side that's meant to be used. The raised texture helps to loosen up makeup that's lodged between the bristles as the brush is swiped across the wipe.
The cleanser wipe is folded into 6 different panels, or sections, which is enough to clean about 6 medium sized brushes, a panel for each brush, or more if using smaller brushes (like eye brushes). Since these wipes can only clean about 6 brushes per packet, they're more ideal for travel or when you want to quickly clean your brushes, but I wouldn't use them as my only brush cleansing product since it can be pricey.
HOW TO USE: Remove one tissue from the package and place it on top of the packet. Gently swipe the brush across the tissue until the makeup residue is removed. Thoroughly rinse the brush under running water and dry.
I tested the wipes on a lot of different makeup formulas as well as different sized brushes and I found that denser brushes are harder to thoroughly clean. There was still some residue left since makeup is usually trapped deep inside the brush, and the wipe can only truly clean the outer surfaces of the brush like the edges and the bristle tips.
Here are the different kinds of brushes I put to the test:
1. Gel Liner - As you can see below, the cleanser wipes completely removed the gel liner from the brush. There was no trace of makeup left at all!
2. Powder Makeup (Foundation, Blush, Eyeshadow) - Like the Argan Brush Cleanser liquid, powder makeup doesn't stand a chance against the cleanser wipes! It removes the eyeshadow, blush, and foundation really well without any leftover residue. However, I wouldn't use the wipes with denser brushes because they're harder to fully clean.
3. Lipstick - The cleanser wipes also lifts lip products off my brushes fairly easily leaving them lipstick-free.
Here is the wipe after cleansing 6 brushes, one on each panel:
FINAL THOUGHTS
First of all, the Kicho Argan Brush Cleanser and the Cleanser Wipes contain the exact same formula. Secondly, they're both AMAZING cleansers that do a great job removing makeup quickly and effectively. The only really difference between the two is that the Argan Brush Cleanser is in liquid form while the Cleanser Wipes contain the same liquid formula but infused in an easy-to-use and convenient wipe. Now, which one do would I prefer or recommend? Well, I'd definitely recommend the wipes for traveling! They come in a packet of 5 and don't require any supplementary tools. The wipes are also handy to have if you're constantly in a rush and need to clean your brushes in a hurry. However, for a more practical day-to-day cleanser, I'd recommend the Argan Brush Cleanser (liquid) because you can use it with not only brushes, but also puffs and sponges. You also get much more bang for your buck since the wipes come in a box of 5 (15ml x 5EA = 75ml) and retails for about $15 whereas the liquid cleanser contains 260ml just for $5 more (retails usually for $20). Also, each wipe can only clean about 6 medium-sized brushes, so those packets are sure to go fast if you use makeup brushes constantly!
All in all, both of the brush cleansers are gentle to brushes and conditions them with Argan Oil, which leaves them soft! These are amazing brush cleansers and I highly recommend trying them!
