REVIEW: Ardell Magnetic Lashes (Accents 001 + Accents 002)

If applying false lashes is a major struggle for you (trust me, I TOTALLY get it), then meet the Ardell Magnetic Lashes! Before Ardell launched their magnetic lash line, the only available ones on the market had a huge flaw - they never fit the natural curve of the lash line, thus making the falsies stick out.

Ardell came along, tweaked the flawed concept, and they knocked it out of the park with these! There is currently two types of magnetic lashes available from Ardell - Full Falsies and Accent Lashes. The only ones I picked up from this line are the Accents 001 and 002!

The Ardell Magnetic Accents are false lashes that do not require ANY glue or adhesive whatsoever. They contain 3 magnets per each band and are reusable. Essentially, these could last forever, or at least a very long time, with good care.

Ardell released two types of magnetic lashes in their new line: the full falsies lash band and accent lashes. The accent lashes are meant to accentuate your natural lashes; they're sort of like half lashes and are meant to go on the outer half of your eyes.

There are currently 5 different designs available including 3 full false lashes, and 2 accent lash styles. All of the lash styles are made out of 100% human hair. I picked up both of the accent lash designs, Accents 001 and Accents 002.

Each box of lashes only contains 1 pair of magnetic lashes and it retails for about $14 per box. There are 4 pieces total, but each eye requires two lash pieces - an upper and an under lash. These are labeled on the lash tray.

SIDE NOTE: I saw some comments online saying that their magnets for the bottom lash are on the wrong side. This is not the case - both of the magnets (for the Upper AND Under lashes) are on the under side of the lashes. It does not affect its performance just because they are on the under side of the lashes!

Ardell says on the package that they're "easy to apply," but I disagree. These definitely took a lot of trial and error, and there was a HUGE learning curve. However, once you get the hang of it, it'll be a cinch to apply! I'd recommend applying these false lashes after you've already done your eye makeup. Mascara here is a must for me because it helps give the magnetic lashes a base to grip on to.


Here are the two ways to apply that worked for me:

1)  The way Ardell recommends to apply them is to lay the Upper Magnetic Lash on top of your natural lash line. Then place the Under Magnetic Lash beneath your natural lash line to connect the two magnetic lashes together.

2) This second method is a little more advanced. I like to hold both the upper and under lash in between my fingers, with a finger separating the two pieces. Then, I position them around my lash line, kinda like a sandwich. When I get them in the position that I want, I'll slowly move the finger that's separating the two pieces away. The magnets should connect together as you do this.

These definitely take a lot of practice to apply. The only problem I occasionally run into is that it's hard to get the magnetic lashes to connect as close to my lash line as possible. The good thing is that these are easy to remove. If I can't get it right, I'll just keep retrying until I'm satisfied with them!

ACCENTS 001

The Accents 001 is the most natural looking lash style out of the two accent designs. They're actually the most natural looking pair that I personally own and I am OBSESSED with this pair.

It comes with a pre-curved band to easily fit into the curve of your natural lash line. The lashes are thin with alternating lash lengths throughout. It does get gradually longer from the inner corner to the outer corner giving the eyes a slight cat eye effect. This pair feels lightweight and comfortable on the lids. I absolutely LOVE Accent 001 and these are natural enough to wear every single day.

ACCENTS 002

Compared to Accents 001, the Accents 002 is much more dramatic, fluttery, and full. Thus, they're a bit heavier on the eyes as well, but not uncomfortable. The lash band is also curved to fit the natural lash line. It contains the same wispie criss-cross effect as Ardell's famous wispie designs. Personally, the tips of these felt a little more blunt cut compared to 001, but it might just be because these contain more hair.



These are nice, but they're a little too dramatic of me. I have thin, sparse lashes, so having my lashes go from my natural thin ones to BAM! thick and full ones all of a sudden is an awkward look. If you have a naturally full fringe, these might work better for you! They kinda look good in the photos actually, but it's not my cup of tea.

HOWEVER, my absolute favorite way to wear both of the Magnetic Accent lashes is to mix and match them! I like to pair the Under 002 with the Upper 001 to get the best of both worlds. The look is not as natural as 001, but it gives me a little more oomph and volume that I want while not being over-the-top.

Both Accent Lash pairs come with secure magnets that do not budge throughout the day. I've only worn these falsies with mascara, and they do not slip or slide at all.

The magnets need something to grip on to to stay in place, so those with sparse lashes towards the ends of their eyes may have a little more difficulty getting these to work. I have an "okay" set of natural lashes but they do get thinner and more sparse towards my outer edges. Because of this, it's hard for me to get the outer corner magnets really close of my lash line because there's not a lot of hairs for it to grip on to. It tends to stick out a bit, but looking straight on, it looks perfectly fine. The magnets don't stand out that much either!

I do recommend wearing the Magnetic Lashes with eyeliner and mascara. Eyeliner helps disguise the magnets from view, while mascara will help give the magnets a base to grip on to!

If you're wondering, this is what the lashes look like from the bottom. If you're looking head on, you can't really tell the magnets are there!

FINAL THOUGHTS 

All in all, I definitely recommend the Ardell Magnetic Accent Lashes if you're looking for false lashes that are "easy" to apply (once you get the hang of it, of course)! They click together and snap onto your natural lashes without any need for glue. They're comfortable on the lids and don't drag down your lashes! They also don't budge or slide around throughout the day.

Accents 001 is more lightweight than Accent 002, but I'd recommend both. On their own, 001 is definitely my favorite, but they're even better together!
