REVIEW: FORENCOS Selene Project Silk Mask Series

There's nothing I find more relaxing than doing masks... especially sheet masks! I've fallen victim to the sheet mask craze and literally do one almost every single night. Call me addicted, but I love it! That's why I was beyond excited when I saw the Forencos Selene Project Silk Mask Series in my June BNT Box to review!

WHAT IS THE FORENCOS SELENE PROJECT SILK MASK SERIES?

The Forencos Selene Project Silk Mask Series is essentially a pack of 7 different facial sheet masks each featuring a different Greek Mythology god. Each mask has a different purpose (like detoxing, moisturizing, regenerating, restoring, etc.) and works to target and improve a different aspect of your skin each day.

1. TUESDAY: Detox with Hephaestus

The week begins on a Tuesday with Hephaestus, god of metallurgy, fire, and volcanoes. Jeju's volcanic ashes eliminate dead skin cells and clean and contract pores.

2. WEDNESDAY: Moisture with Poseidon

The caviar extracts that Poseidon, god of the sea, gives to your skin has a similar texture with it in terms of amino acids, minerals and vitamins. Moisturizes and increases collagen production.

3. THURSDAY: Relax with Dryas

Indigenous Australians were using tea tree leaves to cure infectious diseases. Tea tree oil is amazing at calming and soothing the skin.

4. FRIDAY: Regenerating Midas

24K pure gold treats wrinkles and helps blood circulation while delivering minerals.

5. SATURDAY: Elastic Gaya

Horse oil is similar with human sebum and helps control its secretion. It also contains ceramide for skin regeneration and elasticity.

6. SUNDAY: Illuminating Helios

Pearl was loved by Cleopatra for its high mineral and amino acid concentrations as well as for the bioactive substances it contains. It reinforces the skin's immunity and acidity for a bright complexion.

7. MONDAY: Selene's Total Care

Swiftlet's bird nest contains 2000 times more sialic acid than human saliva and 200 times more than royal jelly for a total turnover: moisture, elasticity, skin tone. It cleans and protects the skin.

REVIEW:

Let me start off by talking about the quality of these sheet masks. These masks are not your average sheet masks made out of cotton. No, they're made out of a silk fabric and it's heavenly! Personally, I've only been using cotton sheet masks and have yet to try any other kind, not even hydro gels. Not only do these feel nicer and more luxurious on the skin, they also adhere really well to the face.

These masks almost fit like a glove for me. I think I have a smaller face than most because most sheet masks are always too big. Size-wise, the closest fitting ones I can think of, besides these, are the ones from Etude House. However, these stay on the skin a lot better. Also, every mask is white and soaked in a clear essence, except the Day 1 Hephaestus Volcanic Ash mask which is brown due to the brown essence that it's soaked in.

Each mask comes with a small packet of ampoule which is to be used as the mask base. Please don't forget that not all of the instructions on the mask packs are the same (I made that mistake with the first mask)! The mask series does not come with any English instructions whatsoever, so that was the hardest struggle for me. The Day 1 Hephaestus Volcanic Ash mask should be applied first and the ampoule applied AFTER you remove the mask. Every other mask after has the same instructions where the ampoule/mask base should be applied BEFORE the mask.

Next in line is the ampoule. I absolutely LOVED it. The ampoule is clear and very thick, almost like the consistency of honey. In my (very limited) experience with ampoule, it has always been really thick, like serum on steroids. The small packet actually houses a decent amount of ampoule. It's more than enough to cover the whole face! The ampoule itself is very unique in the fact that it has a warming affect the more you massage it into your skin. You can feel it heat up as you spread it across your face and I find that feeling to be very relaxing. It's definitely not for everybody though. I think the warming effect is supposed to help with opening up the pores and helping the essences in the mask absorb better into the skin.

Lastly, the formulas in the mask series are all different. The most unique and my least favorite was the very first one: The Day 1 Hephaestus Volcanic Ash mask. As soon as I ripped open the mask pack, I was shocked to discover a brown mask soaked in brown essences! I've grown accustomed to sheet masks that were all white and soaked in clear goodness. However, despite being super cool, the mask was way too drying and left my face (and my nails) feeling ashy, but maybe that was the Volcanic Ash in the mask?

My favorite masks out of the whole series has got to be Day 2: Poseidon Caviar and Day 3: Dryas Tea Tree. The Day 2 mask was super moisturizing and it felt SO relaxing wearing it on my face. I left it on for about an hour so my skin could absorb all of the hydration from the mask. There was no feeling of dryness afterwards and my face was glowing. Day 3 was also my favorite because I saw an immediate reduction in my two red blemishes once I took off the mask and it also gave my face a nice glow.

After completion of the mask series, I saw noticeable improvements! My face has cleared up and the blemishes and red spots that were on my cheeks have lessened or disappeared altogether. My face was hydrated with no feeling of dryness. My skin appeared younger and cast off a soft glow. Plus, my face became more evenly toned, supple, and soft to the touch!

PROS:

Mask feels very nice and luxurious (silk!)
Decent fit
Adheres well to the skin
Ampoule has soothing and relaxing warming effect
Noticeable improvements
Clears up many imperfections (red spots, blemishes, dryness)
Skin is more supple and flexible
Gives skin a nice glow

CONS:

No English instructions
The Day 1: Hephaestus Volcanic Ash mask was drying!

RATING: 4.5/5

I loved all of the masks in this series besides the Day 1: Hephaestus Volcanic Ash mask. It was interesting to try out the whole series of masks and how each mask worked on a different aspect of improving my skin. I would definitely try this mask series again, hands down!
