REVIEW: Catalina Geo Color Capsule Make Up Base in Green

Today, I'll be reviewing one of the products I received in my August BNT Box: The Catalina Geo Color Capsule Make Up Base in Green. Makeup bases and primers are essential if you want to prolong your makeup performance times. Primers help make your makeup last the extra mile on a long day and good primers also help keep your makeup from caking up throughout the day! I have used many different primers including liquid ones and silicone ones, but never have I tried one that comes in capsule beads, so I couldn't wait to test this out!

WHAT IS THE CATALINA GEO COLOR CAPSULE MAKE UP BASE?

The Catalina Geo Color Capsule Make Up Base is essentially a makeup primer that is made up of visible color capsules containing a moisturizing and makeup-preserving essence. This base product comes in a clear glass bottle with a metal-coated pump and cap. The makeup base has a see-through body which you can see numerous little colorful balls suspended in a clear liquid (essence).

This makeup base fixes the skin's tone, protects it from harmful UV rays, and also improves the skin's natural color.

The Geo Color Capsule Make Up Bases comes in a variety of colors including green, white, blue, purple, and pink. Each color has different benefits when applied to the skin. Green is used to neutralize red, which makes it perfect for camouflaging red cheeks, broken veins, and blemishes.

The Catalina Geo Color Capsule Make Up Base claims that it does not contain any oil for unsafe use, even those with sensitive skin types!

Also a side note: Catalina Geo has apparently also rebranded and changed the name and design to IMIIX, so in case you're wondering, they're the same product! :)

REVIEW

Let's first start off with the packaging: it comes in a simplistic see-through bottle which I thought was very flattering for this type of product since you're able to see the cool mechanism behind this product. As you press the pump, which is really easy to use, it breaks down the beads into teeny tiny bits. The product comes dispensed as a clear liquid with hundreds of tiny green flecks (the broken down ball). Upon rubbing in the product, the green flecks melt on to the skin and gets absorbed along with the clear essence.

The primer feels very liquid-y to the touch, so it easily glides onto the skin. It feels just like a thin serum or essence, while also feeling a bit sticky on the skin.

This makeup base does take a few minutes to dry, and you HAVE to wait for it to finish. I love taking my time when doing my makeup, so I don't mind the wait, but if you're someone that is always in a rush or on the go, this makeup base probably wouldn't be your best bet. It feels sticky when it's not dry, but when it's done absorbing it transforms into a very silky and matte finish.

Once it's all done absorbing onto the skin, it makes the skin tone a lot more even; I found that it worked in neutralizing the redness in my skin giving my face an even-colored and smooth base to apply makeup on. My skin appeared brighter when the redness was covered and the makeup base made my skin smoother and more hydrated. It didn't necessarily take away my dry spots, so I had to moisturize well before hand, but it did help makeup powders apply easier. The small blemishes, imperfections, and pores were all hidden and less noticeable after applying this makeup base.

One of the biggest PROS for me about the Catalina Geo Color Capsule Make Up Base is that it does not pile up into little balls when I apply my foundation and other makeup on top. I tend to run into this annoying problem when using primers that contain too much silicone, so I definitely recommend this type over silicone ones!

This primer does have a scent to it, which I don't love. It's quite strong and reminds me of an 'old-lady' perfume scent. The scent does dissipate after a few minutes, but I'm not a fan of it!

PROS

Applies easily
Dries silky and has a matte finish
Evens out skin tone
Makes skin brighter, smoother and more hydrated
Masks small imperfections and pores
Neutralizes redness and blemishes

CONS

Take a few minutes to dry (not for those always on the go)
Feels sticky on the skin until fully absorbed
Smells like "old-lady perfume"

RATING: 4/5
