REVIEW: Pony Effect Profection Brush Liner (Carbon Black)

If there's one thing I can't live without, it's a good liquid eyeliner. I literally wear it every single day and every single night. Without it, my makeup look never really feels complete! I was so excited to see that Pony included one in her Pony Effect Essentials Collection: the Profection Brush Liner! Plus, it's in an easy to use pen form!

Memebox kindly sent me one for review and I've been using it daily for about 2 months now. A review is long overdue, so lets get right to it! :)

PROFECTION BRUSH LINER

Master the art of lines with this super budge-proof liquid eyeliner. The soft, elastic brush tip moves with you to create the finest line.

The Profection Liner comes in a total of 3 shades:
#CARBON BLACK  |  #DEEP BROWN  |  #BROWN

The Profection Liner is a liquid eyeliner that comes in a dark navy (almost borderline black) pen packaging that's sleek and easy to handle. It has a very compact shape that's about ~4.5 inches in length and fits comfortably in between my fingers with zero bulkiness. Though the case of the liner is simple and nothing particularly special, it's so easy to hold and maneuver!

Featuring a pull-off cap and a flexible brush tip applicator, the Profection Liner is easy to use even for beginners! The tip applicator is ultra thin making it nearly impossible to mess up, so it's ideal even for those just starting out with makeup. I've been using liquid eyeliner for several years now and I still haven't mastered the one-flick wing, but this has helped me a LOT. The slender tip allows me to draw thin and precise lines that compliments my daily makeup while still looking natural. It's also very versatile and has the ability to be built up to a dramatic cat eye for more glamorous looks.

The flexible tip allows it to bend to the curve of your eyelids without dragging the delicate skin. It glides nicely onto the lid with zero tugging whatsoever. Also, despite it being a flexible tip, it's easy to control and I can draw both thin or thick lines depending on the amount of pressure I exert on the pen.

Another thing I really like about this kind of brush tip, and all brush tips in general, is that it doesn't fray or loose its shape like most felt tip applicators tend to do. The applicator is very reliable no matter how much pressure I exert on it because it's always able to retain its normal shape.

I received the shade #Carbon Black which is a deep black shade with a semi-glossy finish. If you know me, you know that I am OBSESSED with black liquid liner and I can't live without it -- I literally wear it everyday! #Carbon Black is decently pigmented with just one swipe, but the pigmentation can be inconsistent at times -- the liner sometimes varies between being super opaque and kinda sheer, which was initially a turn-off for me. However, it can be layered and easily built up to a more intense black, so it's not much trouble getting it to work.

The Profection Brush Liner has a fluid, inky black formula that's not runny at all -- it doesn't smear on the lids or transfer while applying! To achieve a flawless, streak and patchy-free line, you have to work fast because it dries down pretty quickly. I've been using this daily for over 2 months now and it's still managing to work beautifully! I haven't switched to another one because I LOVE the applicator. I personally haven't run into any problems besides noticing the occasional inconsistency with the formula, but it's a quick fix for me.

At first, I thought the pen was a little bit dry or I had received a defected one but it appears as though it has to be worked up a few times before the real dark inky goodness comes out. After the first use, a very smooth black fluid dispenses and applies so well onto the lids! It stays on all day for me, 12+ hours, meaning that it doesn't budge or smudge. HOWEVER, it does fade throughout the day and while it is still black, it's not as pigmented or intense as when it first comes out of the brush.

The Profection Brush Liner contains 0.8g of product for $15.50, which is a very decent price tag considering the amount of product you get and the quality of the liner. The actual pen packaging is nothing special and very basic, but the real star here is the applicator tip and the formula, though it can be a little inconsistent, but generally it's pretty darn good.

I find the Profection Liner to be similar to the Kat Von D Tattoo Liner (though the Tattoo Liner is a darker, more pigmented black and lasts longer without fading) but that one only contains 0.7g of product and retails for $20. The Tattoo Liner is better in terms of pigmentation and lasting-power, but if you're looking for a similar one with a cheaper price point, then the Profection Brush Liner is a nice alternative.

FINAL THOUGHTS

The Profection Liner is my current go-to liquid eyeliner pen because of its decent pigmentation and the unique and easy-to-use flexible tip. It's not the absolute best pen liner out there and it does have some flaws -- it fades throughout the day and can be a little inconsistent at times, but overall it's been reliable in making my makeup look good, especially my daily natural makeup! The slender brush tip makes it easy to achieve crisp and precise lines -- it's almost impossible to mess up!

What I look for in a liquid liner pen is one that is easy to hold, has a tip that's easy to maneuver without dragging on the delicate skin, and has nice pigmented color and the Profection Liner did NOT disappoint! It's buildable and can be layered for a more intense black, so there's nothing that can't be fixed. Plus, the Profection Brush Liner is reasonably priced for the amount you get! I definitely recommend giving this a try! :D
